Brainerd, Minnesota, 1870. "The Crossing"

This stereograph was taken in 1870. Brainerd was called "The Crossing" due to the Northern Pacific's proposed rail route bridging the Upper Mississippi. As I understand it, the Rail Road surveyors laid out the town, were pleased, and named the town for the maiden name of the wife of company president John Gregory Smith.

Photgraphers were Caswell & Davy of Duluth. Well know, and respected, and very active in the Minnesota, Wisconsin and Dakotas early on. Condition of the stereo is great. Flat mount.
